The Perfect Weekend In Cape May, New Jersey
For those heading down to the Jersey shore for the Fourth of July holiday and beyond, here are our top spots to hit in Cape May!
This beach town is full of so much more than just a pretty beach. There are tons of desirable attractions and historic charm that make this town a must for those wanting to escape the bustling city during the summer. Cape May is dedicated to preserving its historical structures and celebrating its past.
Kick off your weekend by checking into Congress Hall, America's First and Oldest Seaside Resort Hotel. Built in 1816, this charming hotel is in one of the most coveted locations in the town. The beach is only a 3 minute walk away - or you can relax by the hotel pool. Delicious restaurants, shops and galleries surround the hotel inviting you to explore.

Start at Tommy’s Folly located inside the lobby at Congress Hall. This all-in-one general store is a delicious cafe and adorable boutique. Once you’ve gotten your caffeine kick you’ll be ready for some shopping! The boutique houses a curated selection of resort wear and accessories. This is the perfect shop for a new cover-up or a pair of sunglasses.
For more fun resort-inspired wear and accessories, head to Washington Street Mall, Cape May’s picturesque town-square lined with unique boutiques, delicious food and more! You’ll find irresistible shops such as Cash and Clive, Victorious, Vagabond and Carolina Boutique.
There is plenty of shopping to explore for those needing a break from the beach, especially those with a sweet tooth. If you need a bite to eat, stop in Louisa's, the small but iconic eatery was established in 1980. The menu has delicious fare sourced locally from farms and the ocean! Next door is their delicious chocolate bar full of mouth-watering artisanal chocolates. The smell of freshly baked cookies will lead you to Peanut Butter Co. Featuring peanut-inspired treats, you’ll find so many goodies for yourself and to gift to friends!

Of course, this sweet trail will lead you to ice cream, we recommend King's Ice Cream Parlour, Uncle Charley's or you can find one of our Lambertville favorites, O Wow Cow ice cream served at Tommy’s Folly.
For evening fare, there are plenty of farm-fresh restaurants to choose from, inside Congress Hall you’ll find Blue Pig Tavern, and curated cocktails in a prohibition-era-inspired lounge called the Brown Room. The cocktail lounge is the perfect place to end your day. We’re obsessed with the custom wallpaper and the iconic fireplace.

Before you end your stay, immerse yourself in fresh flowers, produce and the bucolic landscape at Beach Plum Farm. The parterre garden and ornamental arches are breathtaking. There are guided tours available of the farm, or you can shop the farmer’s market and eat delicious local bites. Every Sunday a BBQ is held, making this the perfect stop on your way out of town.

Cape May is truly a must-see for a summer vacation, it checks all the boxes! If you’re traveling from Philadelphia it’s only a 2 hour drive from the city. With so much to see and do this beach town is perfect for all ages. We hope you enjoy your July 4th holiday, and wish you a summer filled with sunshine, sweet treats and good design!
